Hey guys!! Last weekend, I visited a city of Culture event in a pop up shop down Humber Street. It was an art installation which involved the public coming in and making an origami dove with directions from the artist who was involved with the event called Gemma Wood. Before you made the orgami dove, you had to write down a wish on the piece of paper and then fold it up to make the dove. The art installation overall was very pretty to look at, with each individual doves suspended from a wide piece of netting that was attached to the ceiling. So in today’s post, I’m going to be describing this event in further detail and sharing my experience of it.
As we walked into the pop up shop, Gemma Wood asked us if we’d like to try and make an origami dove which if we wanted could become part of the art installation. We enthusiastically agreed and she handed each of us a piece of paper. Our first step was to write down a wish and fold it up so no one else could see it. Next, we followed Gemma’s instructions to turn the flat piece of paper into an elegant dove. I’ll admit that I’m not the greatest at art and craft – that’s more of my sister’s forte. However, I gave the origami dove my best shot and I was pleasantly surprised that in the end it at least resembled a dove. We all agreed to give our doves to the exhibition apart from my sister who wanted to keep hers and Gemma explained that they were aiming to collect a thousand doves since there is an old legend that says if a thousand wishes were made at once, they might all come true. I really enjoyed this event because it was really interactive and made you feel like you were a part of the experience. Plus, the end product of all the doves people had created made for a beautiful piece of art work overall.
Thank you for reading this!! Have you ever been to an event like this where you made something for a display or installation? Let me know in the comments!! There’ll be a new blog post out soon but until then bye for now!!

I always called those origami pieces cranes! They are gorgeous birds though, whether they’re called doves or cranes. I’d read the story about how making 1000 of them meant you could have a wish granted. It’s such a beautiful idea π Congrats on 400 as well Amelia!!
