The AG Travel Diaries: Filey!!

Hey guys!! Towards the end of October, me and my family spent an enjoyable 5 days in a little seaside town, about an hour away from where we live called Filey. We stayed in a beach house on a holiday complex called The Bay and we visited lots of different seaside towns around Filey whilst we were there. I made some amazing memories whilst on holiday in Filey so in today’s post, I’m going to share my experiences of my holiday with you all.

DAY 1

We met up with my auntie and cousin in Bridlington because they were on their way back home from spending the weekend in Filey. For a couple of hours, me and my sister played with our cousin on the beach and my parents chatted with my auntie. At around midday, my auntie and cousin departed back home and me and my family continued on to shop in some of the stores in the town part of Bridlington. We reached our beach house property about 5:30 and I fell in love with it at first sight. The decor in the house was all beach themed and overall there was a relaxed and calming tone to the property.

DAY 2

We set off late in the morning for a walk on Filey beach but the path we took proved to be very steep and in the end, we spent more time walking to the beach than actually on the beach. We enjoyed a pleasurable afternoon though, looking around Scarborough Sealife Sanctuary and it was amazing to see all the different kinds of animals that lived there. We were lucky enough to be able to watch the penguins, turtles and seals be fed and I would definitely like to revisit the sealife sanctuary again.

DAY 3

Whitby was our destination for day 3!! I’d not been to Whitby in about 5 years despite it being one of my favourite seaside towns so I was ecstatic to be finally going back there. We walked around the local shops that were there and as part of the tradition we have every time we visit Whitby, we bought 3 types of delicious fudge. Before we travelled back to Filey, we stopped to have a drink in a great little cafe called ‘Marie Antionette’s. I decided to have a latte which tasted amazing and my family sampled some of the various cakes the cafe offered which they deemed to be scrumptious. On the way back to the accomadation, we dropped in at Robin Hood’s bay so we could have a little wander round there. A lot of the shops and cafes that would be booming with business in the summer were shut because it was out of the holiday season. We incidentally stumbled on a beautiful sea – themed mosaic wall on our way back to our car and it was incredible to see how detailed each mosaic was.

DAY 4

We started our day off with a walk on the beach at Cayton Bay nesr Scarborough. The sun was shining on the sea, causing it to glisten and it appeared to be a deep blue colour rather than a murky grey colour. The wind whipped our hair into our eyes and we experienced a pleasant walk on the beach as a family. In the afternoon, we travelled out to Scarborough and did a touch of Christmas shopping both for friends, family and each other. That night, we ate tea at the on-site pizzeria at The Bay and I was extremely impressed with how friendly the staff were and how great the food tasted.

DAY 5

We packed up all our things that morning and by 10, we’d left the beach house. On our way home, we stopped off at Bempton Cliffs since it was somewhere we’d been wanting to go to for a while but the opportunity had never arisen before. Due to it being out of season for birds nesting in the cliffs, we only saw a few birds that either nested in the cliffs all year long or birds that lived out in the sea and didn’t nest. It was amazing to watch the birds dip in and out of the white chalk cliffs even though I’m definitely not an experienced bird watcher. After we’d spent about an hour there, we journeyed the rest of the way back home.
